4 vs 5 Match-up

4 v 5

With six NCAA tournament games in the books (and my dreams of a perfect bracket coming to an end with the final buzzer of the first game) it’s time to focus on The Design Blog tournament. Today we have the 4 five match-up between “The Tao of Dana” and Cocoon Home.  To reiterate, the scoring is completely subjective and all in good fun. The scoring breakdown is below.

Cocoon Home

Scoring Breakdown

Eye Test: 7 out of 10 points: The design layout is well curated and simple, which speaks volumes to my sensibilities.  There isn’t any clutter to distract the reader from the posts but, it seems to be a little too sparse and lacks a certain oomph. Overall the layout is super clean and easy to read and the pictures are beautiful.

About Page and Personal Story: 4.5 out 5 Points: I love that the “about” page tells the total story of Cocoon Home. From their start as an accessories and botanical store to the origin of the blog it’s all there. I’m also a huge fan short and sweet tidbits about each of the contributors.

Home Page Posts: 4 out of 5 points: The homepage posts are great reads. I love the “Loving the Look” feature about the brown couches. There is not a ton of writing in the posts which is kind of a bummer but, again, the pictures are beautiful.

Post Consistency: 5 out of 5 Points: Multiple posts per week with no discernable gaps is a huge plus providing Cocoon home’s reader with a constant stream of content.

The Tao of Dana

Scoring Breakdown

Eye Test: 6.5 out of 10 points: The design layout is a touch too busy for my taste but still very well done.

About Page and Personal Story: 5 out 5 Points: Dana’s about page is truly wonderful. She does a great job of  telling her story, as well as the Tao of Dana’s, in an easy to read and relatable way. The dedication to her mother is very touching and helped her earn a perfect score in this category. (Shout out to my own mother and mom’s everywhere.)

Home Page Posts: 5 out of 5 points: Although some of the content is not really my cup of tea, Dana’s personality and writing make all of the posts fun and easy to read.

Post Consistency: 6 out of 5 Points: I know I went over the given point total, but multiple posts per day earns bonus points.

Total score before feedback: 22.50

It looks like we have quite the match-up on our hands folks. Your participation could push either blog to victory. Check back to see who moves on to round two on March 31st.
